Like with most hammock hangers, there has been a progression of improvements, enhancements, and style changes in my hammocking experience. These pictures reflect many of these changes.

Yard hammock stand- note end extensions
IMG_4008.JPG
This is an old Hatteras hammock stand from years gone by. I modified it to accept my Hennessy ULBA hammock and tarp. I simply added extensions with eye loops on the end poles, then had the whole thing powder coated for rust protection.

I've used several tensioning devices for my tarp. I've made tensioners, purchased tensioners, and trashed some. These shown are made from materials purchased from Annapolis Performance Sailing (APS) and work very well. Other tensioners I've tried work well in summer weather but freeze up in subzero weather. This APS system works well in all weather conditions.

I like my MacCat Deluxe by OES but decided to add a center pole to add some room where I need it most when entering or existing my hammock from the side. This pole is the remnant from an old REI Soloite tent and was an almost perfect fit for the dimensions of the MacCat.

I began with a pad system fashioned from closed cell foam. ZQ made covers out of Neat Sheet material. I had a main section, lower section, and side wings that all attached with velcro. The lower section was sized to fit in my Thermarest chair. This worked well except for the "fuzz" that came off the Neat Sheet material and got caught along the Hennsessy slit velcro. I used this sytem for several years.

I switched to a camo material and altered the lower section contour.

Ridgeline pocket organizer
IMG_7350s.JPG

This ridgeline pocket organizer replaced the stock Hennesy pocket. This organizer has room for wallet, keys, headlamp, mp3 player, temp/time device, and more. I had it made by ZQ in black ripstop material so as to hide the contents... for a little security.

This is a Speer Snugfit underquilt that I now use. I have a JacksRBetter Hudson River overfilled top quilt. My leki poles support the MacCat tarp in an awning configuration. Note the ridgeline pocket organizer and gearbag organizer.

Nite Ize figure Nine

Nite-Ize Figure 9's...one of the first little gizmos I fell in love with. Prior to these beauties, I was tying taut-line hitches. These make tensioning the tarp ridge easy...even with gloves on.

This is a modified OES MacCat Deluxe silnylon tarp. ZQ added zippered end panels for winter use. These can be rolled up and secured in good weather.

The end panel zippers start at the bottom and go within 6" from the ridge.  The straps from the hammock suspension travel within this 6" area at the top. I have velcro flaps that can be closed at the very top, but usually leave them open for  better ventilation.

The pole pocket has a plastic pole receiver inside to help with support and pocket rip out.

In the main pad section, there was a velcro slit that could be opened for the insertion of additional pads. With two 3/8" CCF pads in place and my Marmot Coloiur sleeping bag, I was able to be comfortable to 3 degrees!!

This pad system, using two CCF pads in the main section, is very comfortable. The softer egg crate CCF is on top and the harder CCF on the bottom.

This was the first version of a pocket organizer for keeping my campsite in order. Made from lightweight silnylon with bellows pockets for cramming in alot of stuff.

Gear pocket organizer

This multipocket gear bag is great! ZQ installed lightweight aluminum pole sections across the top so that it can be folded in half and hung under my tarp from the ridgeline. There are 2 large bellows pockets on one side, and 4 smaller bellows pockets on the other.
